Notary Chamber of Georgia held the presentation of Georgian translation of the “Civil Law of Quebec”

The presentation was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Justice, LEPLs of the Ministry, Courts, Lawyers, High Educational Institutions and Interpreters in the Exhibition Gallery of the National Archives of Georgia.

The Notary Chamber of Georgia started a project in 2015 that aimed to translate the European literature in relation to the Notariat into the Georgian language.

The goal of the project is to increase the access to European literature which will promote the development of Georgian Notary System and the improvement of legislation.

Within the framework of the project, the “Civil Law of Quebec” is the second book translated by Mr. Zurab Chechelashvili. There was published his translated first book - Wolf's Manual “Property Law”.

As the Chairman of the Board of the Notary Chamber, Ms. Marika Gogoladze noted there are two types of code:

“There are two types of Code: German Civil Code and Roman (French-Italian) Civil Code. German legal system is mainly known in our legal area. The Civil Code of Quebec is Roman Civil Code just different from German and moreover, it is the latest code that envisages the achievements of modern Civil Law. The codes of different systems will broaden our legal point of view and show us many shortcomings in our private law. The structure of the Code itself is differently constructed: family and inheritance law is given at the beginning of the Code and not at the end (as in the Civil Codes of Georgia and Germany). This also shows the different attitude to the family and inheritance in the values system. It’s also very important to study other legal family systems. Legal development is impossible without it. That’s why we have translated the Code of Quebec.”

 The Notary Chamber plans to translate the Swiss Code in future.

The Georgian translation of the “Civil Law of Quebec” was given as the gift to all guests.
