The Colleagues arranged a Special Meeting for Notaries who have reached retirement age
The Notary Chamber of Georgia has arranged a special meeting for the notaries who have reached the retirement age. The colleagues and friends hosted Ms. Tamar Vashakidze, Ms. Tatiana Akhvlediani and Ms. Zaira Kutalia. These are the notaries having special work experience as notaries. Ms. Tamar Vashakidze has been working as the notary since 1974, Ms. Tatiana Akhvlediani since 1996 and Ms. Zaira Kutalia - 1985. The Chairman of the Board of the Notary Chamber, Ms. Nino Khoperia summarized the years of her colleagues’ activities and thanked them for their work in the notariat. According to the new legislative amendment, the age limit for the notary is 65 years. Based on the proposed amendment, the retirement age of the notary is the same as the age limit of public servants. In addition, the Minister of Justice may, upon the notary’s application and grounded recommendations of the Notary Chamber of Georgia, extend the term of office but no more than 5 years. Thus, if there are no grounds for the notary dismissal, all the notaries, notwithstanding their gender or other circumstances, shall be able to provide the notary activities until the age of 65, but in case of extension of the term of office – till 70.
The draft law aims to eradicate all shortcomings in the Law of Georgia “On Notaries”. In addition, the draft law contains the regulation of transitional content according to which the notary who is 65 years old before enactment of this Law and still continues to perform the notarial activities at the time of enforcement of this law, the term of office shall be extended until the age of 70. The age limit for the position of notary operates in many countries. Notary in Poland, Portugal, Austria, Czech, Latvia, Lithuania and Slovakia can perform the notarial activities until 70.
