THE BOARD OF THE NOTARY CHAMBER WILL HAVE A NEW PRESIDENT

On the 17^th of May at the General Meeting of the Notary Chamber of Georgia the new President and Members of the Board will be elected.

Under the Law of Georgia “On Notariat” nomination and introducing to the General Meeting of the candidature to the position of the President of the Notary Chamber is the sole authority of the Minister of Justice. Although according to the decision of Tea Tsulukiani the candidature to the position of the President was elected at stipulation of the results of the pre-test for notaries, which is a significant novelty in the history of the Notary Chamber. According to Tea Tsulukiani “Such an approach is a continuation of the logic envisaging more involvement of notaries into their own fortune, career and corps development management”.

On the 11^th of April, 2014, in Kvareli a poll for acting notaries was held out for the first time to define the appropriate candidature for the corps. Therefore application of the authority conferred to the Minister of Justice, nomination of the candidature, would not be made on the basis of a sole decision. The poll was implemented with software specially developed by the LEPL of the Ministry of Justice “Data Exchange Agency” for electronic elections, providing absolute anonymity and protection of the election process. 136 notaries participated in the elections. Majority of them supported Nino Khopheria to the position of the President of the Notary Chamber.

Nino Khopheria presided the Notary Chamber in 2005-2012. During the period of her presidency the Joint Electronic Base of notary actions was established; electronic document flow was introduced, online notary services, as a result of which notary service became quicker and more comfortable, were created; the Training Center of the Notary Chamber was founded. During the same period of time professional liability insurance was introduced to secure interests of citizens; the Notary Chamber of Georgia became a member of the International Union of Notaries. At the General Assembly of member countries of the International Union of Notaries in 2012 Nino Khopheria was awarded the “Cross Order” for her contribution in development of Notariat.
